Corsets, cabaret and cream teas at the Volupté Lounge

On a quiet street behind Chancery Lane is the Volupté Lounge - the bar-shaped lovechild of aptly named divas, Kuki La-Belle and Delores Von Cotier. Finding modern life mundane and tiresome, they aim to transport guests to a ‘world of pleasure, exquisite delight and sharing of decadence, richness and indulgence’. With their combination of jazz bands, 1920s flappers, comedy, cabaret, magicians and burlesque - they definitely succeed.

Upstairs, the dimly lit cocktail bar has an opulent, masculine feel to it and reminds guests of the opium dens that Oscar Wilde would have frequented. Downstairs is reminiscent of a deeply feminine boudoir with its luxurious fabrics, printed wallpaper and a folding screen in a space cleared between the tables from which the various performers emerge to entertain and titillate the well-dressed crowd.

A full calendar of events is available on their website, along with details of their regular nights including ‘Cabaret Kittens’ - a night of purring pin-ups and flirty felines, with music from singer Charlie and her band. One of their most popular events is Afternoon Tease, where finger sandwiches, fragrant pastries and scones with jam and clotted cream are served by saucy Teasemaids wearing traditional maid outfits with stockings and corsets. Entertainment ranges from velvet-voiced vixens to fan-fluttering burlesque starlets, and never fails to please.

Don’t miss the Hurly Burly Show on July 27th where the delicious decadently Miss Polly Rae will be applying her unique vocals to stylish contemporary numbers. She will be joined by her dazzling dance troupe, the Hurly Burly Girlys, who are guaranteed to warm up your weekend.

The nearest tube stations are Chancery Lane and Farringdon, and City Thameslink is the nearest rail station. The area is served by a number of buses and plenty of black cabs.

Nearby in Farringdon, ‘Dollar Grills & Martinis’ is an equally glamorous venue for a night out. Lit by dim red lights and glitter balls; the bar is slick, stylish and frequented by a young, dangerously cool crowd. Relax on the leather sofas and work your way through their extensive Martini menu, or go for something truly special like the ‘Porn Star’. This dose of liquid entertainment combines Stolichnaya vodka, vanilla vodka, and vanilla and passion fruit liqueurs, with a shot of champagne of the side. Divine!
